Medical Education and Teaching

Doctor Carolyn Nessim is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Ottawa. She actively teaches medical students and residents via didactic lectures at the university as well as laboratory skills lab and one on one in the clinical setting. She supervises students at the Masters and Phd levels with various research projects.

She is currently the Program Director for the newly Royal College accredited Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship sub-specialty training program at the University of Ottawa

She has held various administrative roles in the field of education including various roles at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as being the Chair of the CaRMS Committee for the general surgery post- graduate residency program at the University of Ottawa. She was also selected as the Surgeon Mentor in the General Surgery Residents Mentorship Program. In 2017, Dr. Nessim won the Audley Bodurtha teaching award for best teacher in the Division of General Surgery.
